(Not trying to compare my situation to yours) I actually decided to dye my hair birght pink before my last job hunt because of this. I wanted to make sure I would be working in a place where my appearance wouldn't matter.

I agree that society still has many old fashioned views on the definition of a "job" and "professionalism" that need to be challenged. Glad to read you were able to find your own unique way to thrive.
